About This Spot

Stepping into Kantuta's Restaurant Bar and Grill feels like entering a welcoming crossroads where the vibrant spirit of Latin America gently embraces the familiar warmth of a neighborhood gathering spot. Nestled in Silver Spring, this casually comfortable restaurant invites you to slow down and savor moments rich with genuine connection, whether it’s a midday lunch or a relaxed evening with friends. The atmosphere is unpretentious yet attentive, where the hum of conversation mingles effortlessly with the clinking of glasses and the attentive, friendly service that makes you feel genuinely seen.

Here, the pace is measured—never rushed, never overdone—letting you lean into the experience of sharing traditional Bolivian and Latin American flavors that speak as much to family tables as they do to discovery-driven palates. The menu is a thoughtful celebration of hearty, soulful dishes: generous portions that invite you to explore from the crisp, savory embrace of fresh empanadas to the comforting warmth of richly seasoned stews and grilled meats. And while you might come for the celebrated salteñas or the satisfying stack of silpancho, it’s the whole meal—the interplay of sweet, spicy, and savory notes, the stories behind every plate—that settles into the heart of the visit.

The full bar adds another layer to the experience, with local guests balancing out each bite with cocktails and nectars that echo the flavors on the plate. Televisions discreetly positioned mean the energy stays lively without overwhelming, keeping things just right for easy conversation and quiet celebration alike. Parking feels effortless, another subtle ease that lets your focus stay on the food, the company, and the simple pleasure of a place that feels like a hidden gem tucked away on University Blvd.

What emerges at Kantuta’s is less about formal dining and more about the understated joy of sharing meals grown from tradition and threaded with care. The familiar warmth, the generous portions, and the welcoming staff quietly work their way into creating a space that’s as much about feeling at home as it is about tasting something wonderfully different. For those who appreciate genuine moments around the table, this is a spot worth returning to again and again.

Very clean restaurant, friendly and attentive service, and the food was delicious! Great for a casual lunch or dinner. Free parking, full bar with tvs. We ordered the Pollo Saltado and Carne Asada, along with a beet salad (not on the menu but listed as a side so I asked and they accommodated.) Also ordered 2 empanadas salteñas, which were excellent! Portions were filling. We’ll certainly be back!

This has got to be one of the BEST Bolivian food restaurants in Maryland! Everything was outstanding. My friends and I ordered Beef Salteñas, Anticuchos, Lomo Saltado and 2 Silpanchos. The portions were so generous that we literally couldn’t finish it all. Don’t forget to take some of that “white sauce” to go because it’s delicious!! I can’t rave enough about this place. The only downside is the parking because it is limited and along a busy street.

We had a large party here and the food was delicious! The servings were enormous and all of the employees were so gracious! I look forward to returning! What a hidden gem!

This place is a treat! Especially if you love Saltenas! Being born here in the US but with Bolivian parents, I have an affinity for Bolivian food with saltenas and silpanchos as my go-to. Their saltenas here are DELICIOUS. . . !!! A must try if you love a good saltena. I've been to Bolivia a few times and these stand up. Last time I went I got 2 saltenas and a silpancho to split with my husband. Took 4 saltenas to go! Just had one of my leftovers for lunch today, I was immediately transported back to heaven. . I have 3 more to go and will be so sad when the last one is gone. Alas, I know I can make the trek from Annapolis should I be ready for my next batch. Can't recommend this place enough, and the restaurant is adorable. Wish I had taken more pics. ** Update, just had my favorite Bolivian soup here last night, sopa de chairo Legit!!!
